MERCHANT NAVY TRAINING AND COURSES

PRE SEA GP RATING

GP Rating course is a 6 months residential Pre-sea training that you can pursue right after completing 10th. The course is approved by DG shipping, Govt. of India and assists you in starting a career in the Merchant Navy as a Deck or Engine Rating. This program is designed to include the combined study of Deck and Engineering subjects. This course will cover all aspects of the seafaring profession (Deck and Engine), which also include swimming, physical drills, workshop training, rope and mast climbing, lifesaving appliances usage, fire fighting exercises, and ship visits etc.

CERTIFICATE COURSE IN MARITIME CATERING

A Saloon Rating after successful completion of pre-sea course, joins vessel as General Steward or Trainee/2nd Cook and subsequently become Chief Cook/Chief Steward who is the in-charge of Catering Department.
Chief cook takes care of Ship’s food preparation, provision stores, general hygiene and housekeeping. The Chief Cook is usually one of the most pampered and loved person on board.
A few years of experience allows them to serve as specialist cook for different cuisines in “Cruise Liners” or join Star Hotels at shore.

ELECTRICAL TECHNICAL OFFICER COURSE

An Electro-Technical Officer joins the Merchant Navy after their ETO Course of 4 months is completed. The training of an ETO for the Merchant Navy happens within shipping guidelines with practical demonstrations, audio-visual aids, and hands-on training. After spending enough time in the sea, candidates must appear for the Certificate of Competency Exam conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India. Once received, you become ETO Merchant Navy.

DIPLOMA IN NAUTICAL SCIENCE

Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) is a one-year residential diploma course leading to 3-year B.Sc. Nautical Science after 18 months of sea service and also leading to 2nd Mate Foreign going Certificate of Competency (CoC) awarded by the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, enabling the cadets to become Navigating officers on board Merchant Navy Ships anywhere in the world.

Admission to DNS Courses is based on a merit list or entrance exam. IMU campuses and affiliated colleges and institutes give admission after counselling and choose students based on a merit list prepared by the IMU on an Online Common Entrance Test called IMU-CET. A sponsorship from a Shipping company is also mandatory for admission to this course.

BSC NAUTICAL SCIENCE

BSc Nautical Science is a 3-year undergraduate program. It is a professional bachelor's degree that deals with the study of the basic academic and practical devices required to safely navigate and operate marine vehicles, such as a ship.

The course is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, which falls under the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. BSc Nautical Science Syllabus includes subjects such as navigation and seamanship, which is the basic application of shipboard equipment and tools.

GRADUATE MARINE ENGINEERING

GME course is for the candidates who are interested in pursuing the career as a Merchant Navy. GME course is also useful to aspirants who want to join the Navy sector as Engineer officers either onboard or off waters. Students can get a sponsorship for the training program through colleges after the course.

GME course is an extension of the Mechanical Engineering course applied in marine systems. GME course involves the majority of mechanical engineering subjects such as engine analysis, steam turbine test, etc. which becomes easy to grasp for mechanical engineering undergraduates.
